Aapakaaq Climbing Club works to promote the sport of climbing in Greenland, as well as all other sorts of outdoor activities. We are situated in Nuuk and climb in and around Nuuk.
Most of the year we climb indoors, in the kindergarten Puiaq, Jagtvej 15 (the building is marked in red on the map below), but, weather permitting, we climb outdoors during the summer. It is possible to climb top rope at Stanislawip Isikkivia on the road to Qinngorput. Aside from that we usually do a few field trips to Cirkussøen, where there are several good bouldering spots. In order to participate in the outdoor climbing you need to: have joined the club, be experienced both climbing and belaying, and be at least 12 years old (and be accompanied by an adult, if you are a minor).
Current opening hours:
Monday: 17-19 Adults – age 16 and up
Wednesday: 17-19 Adults – age 16 and up, guest climbing is from 17-18
Wednesday at kl. 17.00 Instructions in belaying – requires membership in the club.
Saturdays: 10-12 Family climbing, family guest climbing is also 10-12
From June 1st to August 31st only Wednesdays are open each week – although one of the guards may decide to open on other days, which they will then announce in the facebook group. During the period families climb wednesdays as well
16 and 17 year olds, who climb without an adult companion, must bring a waiver signed by their parent/guardian the first time they climb. The waiver can be found under Documents (in danish).
In time we are hoping to be able to upgrade our facilities, both inside and outdoors – and that more Nuumiuts, young and old, will discover the joys of climbing!!
